10 Mistakes That Keep Your Website Off Google
Is your website invisible on Google? Discover the 10 most common mistakes blocking website rankings in Morocco, and how to fix them.

"My site has been online for months, but it doesn't show up anywhere on Google." It's one of the most common frustrations among Moroccan entrepreneurs. Good news: in the vast majority of cases, the cause is technical and identifiable. Here are the 10 most frequent mistakes.
1. The site isn't even indexed by Google
The most basic cause, yet still very common: if Google has never "seen" your site, it obviously can't show it in results.
How to check: type site:yoursite.com into Google. If nothing shows up, your site probably isn't indexed.
Fix: create a free Google Search Console account, submit your XML sitemap, and manually request indexing for your main pages.
2. A robots.txt file blocking Google
The robots.txt file tells search engines which pages they're allowed to crawl. A configuration mistake (often left over from "development mode") can block the entire site.
Fix: check yoursite.com/robots.txt — it should never contain Disallow: / in production.
3. No unique meta title and meta description tags
Every page needs a unique, relevant title and description. A site where every page shares the same generic title ("Home - My Business") misses a major opportunity to stand out in search results.
4. A slow site
Google factors loading speed into its ranking. A site that takes more than 3-4 seconds to load loses both ranking and visitors (most users leave a slow site before it even finishes loading).
Common causes: uncompressed images, poor-quality hosting, too many unnecessary plugins/scripts.
5. Not mobile-friendly
Over 70% of Google searches in Morocco now happen on mobile. Google applies mobile-first indexing: it's your site's mobile version that's evaluated first for ranking, not the desktop version.
Fix: test your site with Google's free Mobile-Friendly Test.
6. Thin or duplicate content
A page with just a few lines of generic text gives Google very little to understand what your page is about, and which keywords to rank it for. Duplicate content (copied from another site, or repeated across your own pages) is also penalized.
Fix: write original, well-structured content that genuinely answers your visitors' questions — exactly the role of a well-thought-out blog.
7. No heading structure (H1, H2, H3)
Google (and your visitors) need a clear hierarchy to understand your content. A site with no logical title structure (one H1 per page, H2/H3 organizing sections) is harder to interpret — and therefore ranks worse.
8. No proper domain name
A site hosted on a free subdomain (wixsite.com, wordpress.com, blogspot.com) sends a low-credibility signal to Google and visitors alike. A proper domain name (yourbusiness.ma or .com) is essential for serious SEO.
9. No backlinks and no local presence
Google also evaluates your site's authority through links from other sites pointing to you, and your presence on trusted local directories. The complete absence of a Google Business Profile is a particularly common and easily fixable mistake — see our Google Business Profile Morocco guide.
10. Missing SSL certificate (no HTTPS)
If your site still shows as http:// rather than https://, browsers display a "Not secure" warning that drives visitors away — and Google directly penalizes the lack of SSL in its ranking.
Fix: an SSL certificate is now free and automatic with virtually every serious host — there's no reason to go without one.
